Physical parameters and additional information about our sister planete
- Venus is a rocky planet of an approximate diameter equal to 0,95 of the Earth's diameter.
- Gravitational acceleration is 8,87 m/s2 (about 0,9 of the value the Earth's acceleration, which we all know and love)
- The distance between Venus and the Earth: 40-259 million km (the averaged distance is 149,5 million, which constitutes about 2/3 of the distance between the Earth and Mars.
- Its distance to the Sun is 0,72-0,73 au (au = 149 597 870 700 m)
- There are mission launch windows (so called bottom join) every 584 days (for Mars- every 780 days)
- One year on Venus lasts about 225 earthly days
- One day on Venus means 243 earthly days (it is not a mistake.. a day on Venus lasts more than a year)
- Venus turns around its own axis in the opposite direction than the Earth, so the Sun rises on the west.
- GDense and practically opaque atmosphere of Venus consists of about 96% of carbon dioxide. Its weight causes surface pressure approximately 92 times higher than the average atmospheric pressure on the surface of the Earth (it is comparable to being at the depth of 1 km under water).
- The presence of such an amount of CO2 causes the most spectacular green-house effect in the whole Solar System, and because of that the temperature on the surface is higher than 460 degrees Celsius.
- Venus does not have its own magnetic field which could protect it from the Solar wind meaning the strokes of ionized plasma generated by the Sun. A kind of shield from those is still the atmosphere which is dense and reaches over 200km above the surface.
